README: BEAM RUNNER v0.9 A game by Max "Geti" Cahill in ~30 hours ...~54 hours now, hahah. WARNING: THIS GAME IS UNFINISHED! GAMEPLAY MIGHT BE BUGGY OR BROKEN, THE EDITOR IS CLUNKY AND THE LASERS AREN'T LASERS YET! ------------------------------------------- STORY: There was once a robot so sneaky that he managed to steal an incredible artifact known as the "red pixel". It allowed him to reverse time and thus attempt any obstacle thrown at him as many times as he should wish. Mean people in space thought this was less than fair, so they mined the surface of the planet, killing many hapless civilians in the process, and then focussed the beam of their LaserMaster3000 on the robot. He is now forever on the run from the unsavoury laser folk in space. On weekends, the robot works part time as a web designer for a small collective in Montreal. ------------------------------------------- CONTROLS DURING THE GAME: UP Jump LEFT Move RIGHT Move DOWN Activate Terminal R Suicide: Restart Stage -1 Point Q Quit to Menu Menus are controlled with the mouse. ------------------------------------------- THINGS IN GAME: Robot Your little guy. Escape with him. Lasers Lasers happen, get your ass in gear. Mines Unfriendly. Come in floating and gravitationally inclined varieties. Terminals Make doors open and close. Hit Down to make them do their thing. ------------------------------------------- EDITOR: The editor is unfinished but functional. Swap between sets of tiles with 1 2 3 Navigate those sets with the left and right arrows. Click to place a tile. There is no undo. ENTER outputs your level data so you can save it somewhere. Multiple levels per file can be accomplished by inserting |ONWARDS| between sets of data - no other characters should be added to the data, no new lines or spaces or tabs or asdasdagfas. Thus, you can make "stages". Multiple characters per level does work, though if one of them dies it'll count as you losing, and if one wins it'll count as you winning. Some tricky things could be accomplished there.
